Gobarau Minaret, Katsina State

Located at Gobarau quarters in the city centre of Katsina Township, Gobarau Minaret is believed to have been built more than 300 years ago. The minaret was built by local craft men using mainly sun baked clay and mud. In the past, Gobarau Minaret
was the highest building in the ancient city of Katsina and it was believed that the holy Ka’aba in Mecca could be sited from its top through the assistance of a Sait in the person of Wali Jodoma.

This legend is still popular among Muslims in the State. The Gobarau Minaret is a beautiful and imposing traditional architecture; it is believed to be the Mosque of Shehu Usman Dan Fodio and his flag bearers.
